Farewell A&P...

So, farewell then
Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co.
(a.k.a. A&P. Waldbaum's, Pathmark,
The Food Emporium, SuperFresh
and
Food Basics).

Some would say
that you were caught
between
a rock
and
a hard place.

Others might
suggest that
you were
just a hard rock
when you needed
to be
otherwise.

My five year-old self
fondly remembers
eating cookies from
open packages
on the shelves of your
Confectionary
Aisle...

But I doubt
you will truly be missed -
except
by
your landlords
and
creditors.

(With apologies to EJ Thribb aged 110, and Private Eye)

  1. Their going out of business may be considered a public service. In my area they were uniquely poor operators, and the few times I shopped there always led to disappointment. It will free up the real estate so that better operators can thrive.

  2. Casandra,

I just came back from Japan 2 days ago. During my stay, I had a brief chat with a guy from a broker (Okasan Shoken) at the end of 2010. He said that there would be a huge paydown from the Japanese Government (Treasury?) in mid-January, 2011. He and his firm expect that the money would not go back to the Japanese gov. bond due to its low interest rate. Instead, it will go to the EM market.

I did a little research but was unable to find where I could get such useful information on the JP gov's paydowns.

I'll appreciate it very much if you have any suggestion which sites I should check.

    Thanks very much,
    pritto
